20TH CENTURY: FROM ART NOUVEAU TO CONTEMPORARY ARCHITECTURE

From Art Nouveau to contemporary architecture

You will head historically through the world wars; the circuit begins with Belle Époque, goes over Cubism, Functionalism and Social Realism and ends with Modernism. You will discover the Municipal House, a jewel of the Art Nouveau style, buildings with cubist stylisation (The House of the Black Madonna, with its unique coffee house, or the villas at Vyšehrad), one selected historical monument dating back to the 1930s (the Trade Fair Palace, the building of The National Gallery, the Villa Müller, designed by Adolf Loos, or the Baba quarter with its functionalist buildings), Hotel International from the 1950s, constructed in the Stalinist style and the last stop on the tour will be the modern Dancing House, so-called because of its resemblance to American actors Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire
