BAROQUE PERIOD – RULE OF THE HABSBURG FAMILY

Baroque period – Rule of the Habsburg Family

The Baroque quarter, Lesser Town, is an architectural jewel of the 17th and 18th centuries. Here you will see gorgeous terraced gardens and imposing churches, especially the Church of St. Nicholas, the construction of which comprised three generations of architects from the Dientzenhofer family. You shouldn’t miss out on Clementinum, the former Jesuit college. The complex includes numerous towers, a library and several churches, and you should pay special attention to The Mirror chapel…and its stucco decoration. The circuit can be extended, where you can go head back to the time of Mozart and stop by the Estates Theatre and Villa Bertramka.
